There were several times we thought this trip would not happen in 2020 because of the virus, wildfires and mandatory state closures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Colorado was seeing the peak of the fall leaves changing color the three weeks we were in the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"640\" height=\"428\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.dpadventures.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/dsc07025.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-94\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.dpadventures.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/dsc07025.jpg 640w, https:\/\/blog.dpadventures.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/dsc07025-300x201.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><figcaption>Aspen Trees<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We visited towns like Victor, Cripple Creek, Guffey, Creede, Lake City and many others. We enjoy seeing the old ghost towns or communities that have long been abandoned. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We tow a Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk which gives us the opportunity to travel most any road under any conditions. We took Phantom Canyon Road up to Victor and Cripple Creek and returned to Canon City by way of Shelf Road. Pleasant RV Park near town. From here we ventured out in every direction and every dirt road we could find. Our big thing is to always be on the lookout for animals big and small. The town was interesting but the real treat was the chipmunks that would climb all over us and eat sunflower seeds from our hands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"640\" height=\"428\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.dpadventures.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/dsc06841.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-53\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.dpadventures.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/dsc06841.jpg 640w, https:\/\/blog.dpadventures.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/dsc06841-300x201.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><figcaption>St. Elmo Chipmunks<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Our hometown of Foley, Alabama took a direct hit from Hurricane Sally so we decided to cut our trip short by a few weeks and return home in a week.
